Amalgam Replacement

Decay weakens a tooth. Amalgam fills the hole but doesn’t make the tooth strong again.

  • Amalgam is not glued, it is just wedged into the hole.
  • Amalgam expands and contacts 3 times more than tooth with a cold drink or hot food.
  • With time, the tooth around the amalgam starts to crack.
  • Moisture and germs get in under the filling because there is no glue.

The two major problems that result are

  • Decay hits the nerve and the tooth needs root treatment
  • A large piece of valuable tooth breaks off or the tooth splits in half.

Don’t leave it till it is too late! Teeth that are filled with a lot of amalgam (More than 50% of the biting surface) Are better restored with ceramic.
