The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) is a nation-wide initiative that was launched on 1 January 2014. The 2.7 billion Commonwealth-funded programme provides children and teenagers aged between 2 to 17 up to $1000 for basic dental services.

If your child meets the CDBS eligibility requirements, he or she is entitled to receive the capped benefit, claimable over a two-year period. The CDBS covers the basic range of dental services including oral exams and X-rays. This means-tested programme requires the family of the child to be an existing recipient of Family Tax Benefit Part A (FTB-A) or other specified government payments.

We will bulk bill your child’s treatment fees through Medicare, which means you do not have to incur any out-of-pocket expenses.

If your child is due for a routine check or require additional treatments like an extraction or fissure sealing, you may claim the benefits immediately – as long as it falls within the two-year entitlement period.

For more information on how you can claim your child’s CDBS benefits at Albany Dental, call (07) 3264 9590.

How to claim

If you have received a letter from the Australian Government that confirms your child’s eligibility for CDBS, your child is able to access the $1000 benefits for basic dental services with immediate effect. Please note that the letter is posted directly to eligible teenagers over 16.

To claim, simply present the letter along with your Medicare card (that includes your child’s name) to our friendly receptionist. We’ll be able to deduct from your benefit amount to pay for your child’s dental fees on the day of the appointment.

Your payment will be processed using your Medicard. After a deduction has been made, the system will reflect your new balance amount that may be used for future appointments. You will not have to submit a Medicare claim or be required to make co-payment. We endeavour to make your CDBS claim as free from hassles as possible.

Even if you have lost the eligibility letter, we can still access your Medicare account to check your balance amount. If there are sufficient funds, we will be able to deduct accordingly. You can ask for a printout of your available balance when making payment.

The following dental treatments and procedures are included as part of the CDBS initiative:
